Why do my participants get limited options if they mistyped and also deleted the wrong letters?

I have added the question from the pattern sociodemographics for the country they live in. So the question is based on a country list. If someone mistypes then he is not anymore able to choose between all the options. Then only occur limited options to answer. What could I do?

In other words: When people mistype in my question for the country they live in they get limited options even if they deleted ther previous answer.

Do you refer to the options offered immediately below the input ("as they type") or do you refer to the options offered after someone entered text, hit the "next" button and then saw that non-JavaScript fallback selection?

The options are offered immediately below the input ("as they type") but eiter if someone tries to correct his input or is not able to go furhter ("next") he gets the limited options.

The options offered below the input should change whenever you type some new text (at least two characters) in the input. Do I understand your question correctly, that the options do not change, if something else is entered? Can you create a pretest link to the respective page?

Below you will find the pretest. It is about question number two. Please mistype a country and go to the next page. Then obivously you can't go further which is correct because you mistyped. Then try to correct it and I guess you will see what I mean. After clicking "next" one option always is "other" (which would be correct here), and if you select that an then click "next" another time, you have the original question format that allows for open-ended inputs.

okay thank you but my participants do not know this and I do not want that they have to click several time next to have all the options. Is there not a possibilty that they can correct it an still have all the options?

The procedure was actually created to allow respondents a valid selection, if they have JavaScript disabled or cannot use it for any reasons. However, I agree that this is not a good solution for all the other users. I will look for a better solution. This, however, will take a few days.

Thanks for the patience.

We have updated www.soscisurvey.de to find a solution that works well if JavaScript is available and if it is unavailable. Please give it a try.
