can a "suggesting text input" question also be used as a "dropdown"?

I'm just a beginner but I love the way this site works! Thanks a lot!

For the survey that I am building, I copied the question "from which country are you?" which is a question of the type "suggesting text input". It is very impressive that each country can be represented by a list of different spellings.

I therefore think that I already know the answer to my question... But here goes:

Would it be possible to change this question to a drop-down menu form? For other question types I discovered that this was easy, e.g. a bullet-list question could very easily be turned into a drop-down question. But as said, I can see that the flexibility of all the different spellings may make it hard to fit all the possibilities into a single drop-down.

Are there other possibilities to use the countries list? Let's say if I really, really wanted a drop-down menu?

The "normal" dropdown questions support up to 99 response options. And honestly: You shall not use a dropdown with more than 20 oder 30 options, or your respondents may scroll to death.

If you really want a larger dropdown, then the extended selecion will technically allow for that.

The questions that allow for more than 99 options/items store the options a bit differently: They contain a text list with all the options. This is true for both the extended selection and the suggesting text input. If you want to use a subset of the options in a traditional question, you can use the item/option quick import. This tab (available in the traditional dropdown, for example) allows for the quick import or export of options via copy&paste.
