Issue with “Graphical Positioning” – Areas not clickable / Markers not displayed

I am currently implementing a question using the “Graphical Positioning” question type and am encountering an issue.

I uploaded an image (a ladder with 10 rungs) and defined one selectable area per rung (initially using polygons, later circles). Additionally, I created a marker (“diagonal cross”) so that participants should see their selection visually.

However, in the preview, none of the defined areas can be selected – clicking on the image does not trigger any response, and no marker (cross) appears.

In the variables tab, I also see error messages for the marker variables:
SE01_02x01 to SE01_02x10 = ERROR

Steps I have already tried:

Using both polygon and circle areas

Increasing the size of the clickable areas

Recreating the marker (“diagonal cross”)

Setting minimum and maximum number of markers to 1

Saving and reloading the preview multiple times

Unfortunately, the issue persists.

Could you please help me understand:

What causes the ERROR messages in the marker variables?

Why the defined areas are not clickable in the preview?

What the correct setup is for enabling a “click + marker display” interaction?

1) May I kindly ask you to create a preview link directly (!) for the respective page, and post it?

2) Did you consider a slider question? It may suit your needs much better. You'll even find ladders as predefined "slider" options.
