Hi,
I want to generate the unique codes for mturk. I read through your previous questions and answers but I cannot find random generator in the question list. Please could you guide me step by step on how to generate these unique codes?
Thanks.

but I cannot find random generator in the question list.

The random generator works like any other question type (selection, dropdown, ...), but creates no output in the questionnaire.

Simply select any of your sections, then click Add Question in the List of Questions and then choose the random generator as question type. Either in the dropdown next to the question description or as image (dice) below. It's categorized under Functional Elements.

exactly my problem, there is no such option as random generator in the drop-down list.
I cannot even see functional elements: It would be better, if we could please arrange a chat via email, I can share you the screenshots.

Just to be sure: You are working on www.soscisurvey.de, not on a different server?

You can upload a screenshot on https://s2survey.net/transfer/ - you may also send an email to info@soscisurvey.de, but please be aware that it may take several days to get an answer via email. The online support is way faster.

Thanks for the screenshots. As I already guessed, you are working on a completely outdated SoSci Survey installation on a local university server. Please tell your server administrator to update as soon as possible, as there's a serious security issue with the installation they are using.

I guess that the person responsible for the server has changed, because we have informed all licence partners about the updates. Therefore, please tell them to also send us the latest contact information.

ok thank you. Is there any way I can proceed? Because this might take time and I need to finish the survey today.
I also have an account on your site. I will try to use that.

Sure, you can copy the project to www.soscisurvey.de with a few clicks
https://www.soscisurvey.de/help/doku.php/de:general:copy-project

Please note, that the way back will not work, you can only copy to a newer version. You will also have to check the questionnaire for eventual changes in the way the questions are displayed.

And please do not forget to inform the person who's responsible for your university server.

Thank you. Yes I already have informed my professor and thesis guide. So they should be informing the responsible person at the university.

I have created the question, added it in the questionnaire but it doesn't generate a code in the test mode at least. Now what is the next step? Do I have to create a code?

what is a text element and how to create it? I am sorry but I am using this for the 1st time. So I am totally clueless.

I solved it. The codes are generated now at the end of the survey.
Could you just may be explain me, if these codes are generated only once or is it possible that one code is generated or shown to many users?
Thanks.

> if these codes are generated only once or is it possible that one code is generated or shown to many users?

Depends on what you have set in the random generator. If you did not change the default setting (put away when drawn), than every code is displayed only unce until (!) every code has been used once. So make sure, there are enough codes in the random generator.

In the random generator right to the codes you can see, which codes have been used (and how often).
